Tips for Quoting
How to become faster and more effective at quoting, and turn more quotes into paying jobs as a service provider or Tradesman in Portugal?

Build a sales Pipeline
If you find quoting one of the most time-consuming parts of being a Pro, you’re not alone. On average, Tradesman are spending seven hours a week preparing quotes – that’s just about a full day’s work every week. We’ve put together some tips below to help you master your quoting process and ensure your time spent quoting does not go to waste.
Be quick and confident
Speed is key. Grabbing the customer’s attention while their job is fresh in their mind is a smart move and may give you the edge over other Pros.
Gauge the full job details by speaking with the customer on the phone or the Message Centre. The more information you get from the customer from the outset, the less likely you will need to readjust your quote down the line and avoid miscommunication.
Having a quoting template ready to go with your logo and standard information is a great base to work from. Fill in the blanks and get that quote over to the customer as soon as it’s ready. You’ll showcase both speed and professionalism.
Be confident in your price. Have a clear process and accurately price out jobs. You’ll know what the raw materials are going to cost you and what your time is worth – don’t sell yourself short.
Present larger quotes in person
If you’re quoting on a large job, present your quote in person to your customer (or over the phone if face-to-face is not an option). This gives you an opportunity to discuss your quote in detail and explain how you arrived at that price.
It’s also a great way to build rapport, show your expertise, and explain to them why you’re the right Pro for the job.
Don’t forget to follow up
Once you’ve sent your quote, you should always do a quick follow-up if the customer hasn’t come to a decision. This doesn’t have to be pushy, it can be a simple question like “are you ready to go ahead?” or “have you thought anymore about my quote?”
If the customer has expressed that they are looking to complete the job ASAP or the next few days, this could be an immediate job lead and if you don’t follow up, you’re leaving the door open for a customer to choose another competing Pro. Customers may not always look for work to be done straight away, so by following up, you may receive an indication of when they are looking to go ahead. Keep this in mind and feed it into your sales pipeline so you can follow up when the time is right. Following up also gives you an opportunity to answer any questions your customer might have, or overcome any hesitations or concerns. A short conversation could be all they need to get them over the line.
Confidence is key
A quick, confident and professional approach to quotes will save both you and the customer valuable time. Be quick and confident, quote bigger jobs in person, and don’t forget to follow up.
